Keyboard

SCALES: The following scales in all keys, 4 octaves, ascending and descending, using two hands in parallel:

ARPEGGIOS: Perform all forms of seventh chords from memory, four octaves, ascending and descending, using two hands in parallel.

PERFORMANCE STYLES: Perform the following styles. Be prepared to perform each tune and an improvised solo over the tune’s chord changes without accompaniment:

SIGHT READING: Melodic and harmonic sight reading of the various styles listed above will be required, with emphasis on reading chord changes. Improvise at sight introductions, fills, and endings when given a melody and chord symbols.

Percussion

RUDIMENTS: (Snare Drum) Perform from memory the standard 26 rudiments, slow (open) to fast (closed) to slow (open) with evenness and clarity.

SOLOS/ETUDES: Perform a solo of your choice which displays your ability at the highest professional level on all the following instruments: snare drum, timpani, and marimba or xylophone.  Suggested sources:

Demonstrate ability to tune timpani.

SCALES AND ARPEGGIOS: Perform from memory on marimba or xylophone the following scales and arpeggios in all keys ascending and descending:

SIGHT-READING: Sight-reading of various styles will be required on snare drum, mallets, timpani, and drum set.

OPTIONAL: Perform orchestral and band excerpts for various percussion instruments.
